3 Alternative nights out in Sheffield
Right now, Sheffield is a booming city. Life as a student can sometimes feel like non-stop studying, or non-stop partying, or a mixure of both, so you’d be forgiven for not making it outside of your university campus. There’s lots to do in Sheffield, especially when it comes to a night out, so if you do fancy a change from the norm take a look at our guide to a few new places away from the student bar.
Kelham Island is one of Sheffield’s best kept secrets. Over the last 5 years it is an area of the city that has grown and is well known for it’s ‘proper’ pubs. If you fancy getting out of the student bar and sampling local beer then Kelham Island is a must. The beer might be slightly more expensive than the student bar but you won’t need as many pints… Trust us! You might actually get to meet some of the locals too. Kelham Island currently boasts 6 pubs within 200 metres of each other. There are also lots of lovely beer garden’s which are perfect for a warm afternoon.
Believe it or not, salsa dancing in Sheffield is a real thing! The city centre offers 3 different places to do it, on over 4 nights of the week. This will certainly make a change from a fuzzy night of doubling up for £1. Steel City Salsa is a particular popular night and offers several classes for all levels, based at the Millennium Hall on Ecclesall Road it’s on the doorstep of SHU Collegiate Campus. It’s a chance to have a laugh and get some exercise.
Located between Sheffield Train Station and the Sheffield Hallam City campus is the Showroom Cinema, which is a local treasure that has been there for over 20 years. It’s a 30 second walk from the Sheffield Hallam Hub. It’s not your local Cineworld as it only boasts 4 screens, but that helps emphasise the friendly atmosphere and independent heritage. Most of the films shown are not what you would get at your standard cinema. Take a look below to see the films on at the minute. There is also a fully stocked bar too!
